Speech & Language Therapy
At Wave Makers Pediatric Therapy, we believe communication is more than producing words — it is the foundation for connection, self-expression, relationships, confidence, and participation in everyday life. Our speech and language therapy services are designed to support the whole child through individualized, neurodiversity-affirming, and relationship-centered care that honors each child’s communication style and developmental journey.
We utilize a holistic and play-based approach that recognizes the important connection between motor planning, sensory processing, emotional regulation, social engagement, and language development. Therapy sessions are designed to be effective, engaging, and child-led while building functional communication skills that carry over into the home, school, and community environment.
Our approach is influenced by the Bloom & Lahey model of language development, which conceptualizes language as an integrated system involving content, form, and use.
We also incorporate teachings from Marge Blanc and Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) frameworks to support gestalt language processors, including many autistic children who develop language through delayed echolalia and scripted language before transitioning toward self-generated communication.
In addition, our therapists incorporate DIRFloortime-informed principles that prioritize relationship-building, emotional connection, regulation, engagement, and developmental readiness. Through child-led interactions and play experiences, we support communication growth while nurturing each child’s emotional, sensory, social, and cognitive development.
Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC)
We strongly believe that every child deserves access to communication. Our team has extensive experience supporting children who use or may benefit from augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), including low-tech and high-tech systems. We work collaboratively with families to identify communication systems that empower children to express themselves confidently across all environments while supporting language growth, autonomy, and connection.
Family-Centered & Neurodiversity-Affirming Care
At WaveMakers Pediatric Therapy, families are an essential part of the therapeutic process. We believe most progress happens when caregivers feel supported, educated, and empowered alongside their child.
Our therapists collaborate closely with families to:
- Understand each child’s unique strengths and communication style
- Create individualized goals that reflect meaningful daily life skills
- Support carryover of strategies into everyday routines
- Foster confidence, regulation, connection, and independence
- Celebrate progress in a compassionate and supportive environment
